Squire alternatives

Squire is a good barbershop product and it publishes its prices, which most of this category still will not do. People leave it for three specific reasons, and none of them is that it stopped working. Here is what those reasons are, what the seven realistic alternatives cost, and when staying put is the right call.

Three reasons owners go looking, and one that is not real.

Squire is barbershop software, built only for barbershops, and inside that lane it is one of the two or three best things you can buy. Shops that leave almost never leave because the product failed. They leave because of where the tier lines fall, or because the shop stopped being only a barbershop.

  • 01

Commission and booth rent sit two tiers up.

Squire puts "Commission & rent collection" in Executive, at $150 a month per shop. Pro, at $50, does not include it. For most shops paying barbers on commission or renting chairs, that is not an upgrade — it is the whole reason you bought software. Tripling your bill to get it is where the search usually starts.

  • 02

The second location changes the math.

Multi-location support is in Titan, at $250 a month per shop. Three shops is $750 a month, and it is per shop rather than per brand, so the cost scales linearly forever. That is defensible for a large chain. It is brutal at three.

  • 03

The shop stopped being only a barbershop.

You added colour, or a nail tech, or a licensed esthetician. Squire is barbershop-first by design and has no intention of being anything else. That focus is a strength right up until your business is wider than the product.

  • 04

The reason that is not real: hidden pricing.

Squire publishes its tiers. Plenty of this category does not — Zenoti publishes nothing at all. Whatever else you weigh, do not switch away from a vendor that shows you the number to one that will not.

The baseline

What Squire actually costs.

Four tiers, published on their pricing page. Read the unit carefully — the first tier is per barber, the rest are per shop.

TierPriceUnitWhat it adds
Independent$30/moper barberBooking, no-show protection, reminders, branded app
Pro$50/moper shopMultiple barber accounts, waitlist, Google and Instagram booking, dedicated onboarding
Executive$150/moper shopUnlimited email and SMS marketing, Google Reviews Booster, commission and rent collection
Titan$250/moper shopMulti-location support, branded app, loyalty, gift cards, inventory and purchase orders

Two add-ons are priced separately: branded landing pages at $25 a month and the AI Operator at $99 a month. Squire publishes its card processing rates as well — 2.5% + 20¢ card-present and 2.9% + 30¢ online. For the record that is a better card-present rate than our own 2.75% + 10¢. Squire does not publish setup fees or contract length, so ask for both in writing before you sign.

The number that drives most switches
$150

Monthly cost per shop to get commission and booth-rent collection on Squire. It is an Executive-tier feature, not a Pro one.

The field

Seven alternatives, and who each one is for.

Prices are what each vendor publishes on its own pricing page. Where a vendor does not publish something, we say so rather than quoting a directory.

Closest on price

Razored — $25 / $50 / $150

$25 solo, $50 per location with unlimited providers, $150 for two locations plus $50 for each one after. Commission tracking, the walk-in queue with skill-based matching, payroll summaries and an appointment-change audit trail are all in the $50 tier — the things Squire gates at $150. Covers barbershops, hair salons and nail studios rather than barbershops only. No memberships or recurring billing, no filed payroll, no telephony. Built and run by the operators of No Grease barbershops. This is our product, and you should weigh that.

Safest

Square Appointments — $0 / $49 / $149

Free, then $49 and $149 per location. Unlimited staff calendars with no employee limit, so headcount never raises the bill. Commission tracking is not on the free tier — it requires Plus or Premium. In-person processing runs 2.6% + 15¢ down to 2.4% + 15¢ by tier. The hardware and payments ecosystem is the deepest here. Weakest on anything barbershop-specific — the walk-in flow is generic, not built for a queue.

Best built

Mangomint — $120 base + $10 per user

The nicest software in the category by a distance, and the most expensive at any real headcount. The base includes zero users, so a six-person shop is $180. Every profile counts, including booth renters. Additional locations are $120 each. Free onboarding and data transfer, no contracts, no booking fees, 2.45% + 15¢ in person. Salon-leaning rather than barber-leaning.

Flat rate

GlossGenius — $24 / $48 / $148

The only one here with no per-staff charge at all — team size gates the tier instead. Standard $24, Gold $48 for teams under ten, Platinum $148 for ten and up, on annual billing. Commission tracking starts at Gold. Flat 2.6% processing with no added fee for Tap to Pay, card-on-file or manual entry, though instant payouts cost a further 1.8%. Additional locations are the plan price less 15%. Aesthetic-forward and beauty-first; barbershops are not the core audience.

Cheapest sticker

Vagaro — from $23.99, per calendar

The headline is promotional: $23.99 is an exclusive rate for the first six months and Vagaro does not publish what it becomes after. The unit is a bookable calendar, not a location — one is included, each additional is $10 a month for calendars two through seven, and everything past seven is free. So a ten-barber shop caps at seven paid calendars. Marketplace listing costs nothing extra. Payroll through Gusto is $34 a month plus $5 per employee. Broad rather than deep: salons, spas, gyms and wellness all at once.

Marketplace

Booksy — $29.99 + $20 per extra user

One plan, $29.99 a month, plus $20 for each additional user. No commitment. The real cost is Boost: free to switch on, then a one-time 30% fee on each service price from a Boost client's first visit, with a $10 minimum and a $100 cap. Tips are excluded. Booksy does not charge commission on clients who find you through your own marketing or when Boost is off. You are buying a consumer marketplace with software attached, which is the opposite trade from Squire. Booksy does not publish how many users the base fee includes, or whether it is per location.

Per head

Fresha — $19.95 solo, $14.95 per team member

The only true per-person price in this group. Independent is $19.95; Team is $14.95 per team member per month, so an eight-person shop is about $120. New clients booked through the marketplace carry a 20% one-time commission with a $6 minimum; returning clients are free. Texts are 100 free per team member each month on the Team plan, then 2¢ each. Cheap at small headcount, and the per-head model is exactly what most shops are trying to escape.

Stay put

Squire — $30 / $50 / $150 / $250

Worth saying plainly: if you run one barbershop, pay hourly or salary rather than commission, and Pro at $50 covers you, there is no argument for switching. Squire is barbershop-native, the onboarding specialist is real, and moving platforms costs you weeks. The case for leaving is about tier lines and scope, not quality.

The short version

What we would tell a friend with a shop.

  • One shop, hourly or salary pay, under $50 a month. Stay on Squire Pro. Nothing here beats it enough to justify a migration.
  • One shop, commission or booth rent. This is the real decision point. Squire wants $150. Razored Growth is $50, Square Plus is $49, GlossGenius Gold is $48. All three include commission tracking at that price.
  • Two or more shops. Squire Titan is $250 per shop. Razored Scale is $150 for two and $50 for each after. At three shops that is $750 against $200. Check the feature list before you act on that gap, but the gap is real.
  • Adding salon or nail services. Squire is not going to follow you there. Razored, Mangomint, Vagaro and Square all will.
  • You want the best-made software and the budget exists. Mangomint, and it is not close. Just do the headcount maths first — $120 plus $10 per person adds up faster than it reads.
  • You need new clients more than you need better software. Booksy or Fresha, and treat the marketplace commission as a marketing cost rather than a software cost.
Straight answers

Squire alternatives, answered.

What is the best alternative to Squire for a barbershop?

It depends on why you are leaving. If it is the $150 Executive tier for commission and booth rent, the strongest swaps are Razored Growth at $50 per location, Square Plus at $49 per location and GlossGenius Gold at $48 — all three include commission tracking at that price. If it is multi-location cost, Razored Scale is $150 for two locations and $50 for each additional one against Squire Titan at $250 per shop. If you are adding salon or nail services, Squire is barbershop-only and Razored, Mangomint, Vagaro and Square Appointments all cover wider service mixes.

How much does Squire cost?

Squire publishes four tiers: Independent at $30 a month per barber, Pro at $50 a month per shop, Executive at $150 a month per shop, and Titan at $250 a month per shop. Branded landing pages are a $25 monthly add-on and the AI Operator is $99. Squire does not publish setup fees, contract terms or card processing rates.

Does Squire include commission tracking?

Only from the Executive tier at $150 a month per shop, where it is listed as commission and rent collection. The $50 Pro tier does not include it. This is the single most common reason shops paying on commission start looking elsewhere, because several competitors include commission tracking at around $50.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Squire?

On sticker price, yes — Vagaro starts at $23.99 a month, though that is a promotional rate for the first six months and Vagaro does not publish the price afterwards. GlossGenius Standard is $24 on annual billing and Booksy is $29.99. But sticker price is the wrong comparison. What matters is the unit: Fresha charges $14.95 per team member, Mangomint charges $10 per user on top of a $120 base, and Booksy charges $20 per extra user. Razored, Square Appointments and Squire Pro all bill per location or per shop with no per-head charge, which is what actually decides the bill once you have five or more people.

Does Squire work for hair salons or nail studios?

Squire is built specifically for barbershops and markets itself that way. If your business is adding colour services, nail techs or estheticians, you will be fitting a wider operation into a barbershop-shaped product. Razored covers barbershops, hair salons and nail studios; Mangomint, Vagaro and Square Appointments all handle mixed service businesses as well.

What does it cost to run three barbershops on Squire?

Multi-location support is a Titan feature at $250 a month per shop, so three shops is $750 a month. For comparison, Razored Scale is $150 a month including two locations plus $50 for the third, which is $200. Square Appointments Premium is $149 per location, which is $447. Compare the feature lists before acting on those numbers, but the structural difference is that Squire prices multi-location per shop rather than per brand.

Should I switch away from Squire?

If you run one barbershop, pay hourly or salary, and Pro at $50 covers what you need, no. Squire is barbershop-native, the onboarding is genuinely supported, and a platform migration costs you weeks of staff time and some client data quality. The honest cases for switching are narrow: you need commission or booth-rent tracking and do not want to pay $150 for it, you are opening additional locations, or your business is no longer only a barbershop.
