The booking fee, plainly

$3 per online or phone booking. Walk-ins are free.

This is how Razored makes money. It's why your subscription is $49 instead of the $130–$280 you'd pay on Vagaro once their add-ons are stacked. Other platforms charge the shop, salon, or studio for every one of those things as a line item on your bill. We charge the customer a flat convenience fee instead — the same way Ticketmaster, OpenTable, and DoorDash do — and pass the savings to the operator.

Operator script "The booking platform charges $3 to book online or by phone. Walk-ins are free." It's true, it's normalized, and it doesn't come out of your tip pool.

Card-on-file is required on every booking — whether the client booked themselves or the front desk added them — which is why no-shows drop dramatically. The fee is captured the moment the appointment is booked. Whether it's a $42 haircut, a $180 color service, or a $75 nail set: the fee stays the same. The booking platform earns the fee. The shop, salon, or studio earns the service.

Total cost vs. Vagaro

Vagaro advertises $30/mo. Here's what shops actually pay.

When you stack the real add-ons against the advertised base, the actual bill lands between $130 and $280 per month. The price you're quoted at signup is almost never the price on your statement.

Common questions

Answers from the floor.

Will my customers be annoyed by the booking fee?

Convenience fees are normalized — Ticketmaster, OpenTable, DoorDash, every airline. $3 on a $42 haircut is less than most customers tip. The shops we run on Razored haven't had pushback. Walk-ins remain free; the fee only applies when a customer chooses to book a confirmed slot online or by phone.

Why is your processing rate slightly higher than Square?

On a $42 transaction, the difference is about 7 cents. If a shop does 1,000 transactions a month, that's $70. But you save $80–$200 every month on subscription costs compared to Vagaro's real bill. Total cost of ownership beats both. We publish our rates openly so you can run the math yourself.

Why is Solo free?

Because we want every independent barber, stylist, and nail tech in the country to have access to professional-grade software without a paywall. The booking fee covers our cost on every transaction, which makes the free tier sustainable. When a solo pro grows into a shop, Growth is there.

Do you charge per provider, per chair, or per location?

Per location, on Scale. Never per provider, never per chair. Growth includes unlimited providers at a single location for $49/month. Add a second location and you're on Scale at $149 + $50 per additional location.

What happens to my rate if I grow?

Your subscription tier changes with you. Your processing rate doesn't get worse. As Razored grows, we renegotiate with Stripe and pass meaningful savings back — we'd rather earn loyalty than squeeze margin.
