Best barbershop software in 2026

Nine platforms, priced the way a shop owner actually gets billed: what it costs at six chairs, what scales the bill, and what each one is genuinely bad at. We make one of them. We have said plainly where ours loses.

The short answer

Most shops are choosing between four of these.

For a solo barber, GlossGenius at $28 a month or Razored Start at $25 are the two cleanest entry points. For a single shop with four to ten chairs, the real contest is Razored Growth at $50 per location, Square Appointments Plus at $49, and Squire Pro at $50 — because those three do not bill you per barber. For a shop that needs new customers more than it needs software, Booksy or Fresha buy you marketplace demand and charge a cut of the first visit for it. For ten or more locations with a franchise structure, Zenoti is the category answer and publishes no pricing at all.

The number that decides most of this is not the sticker price. It is the unit that scales it.

Hiring your seventh barber costs $0 on the first four platforms, $10 on Mangomint, $14.95 on Fresha and $20 on Booksy. Over three years that gap is larger than the software bill itself.

Platform by platform

Who each one is actually for.

The free floor

Square Appointments

Flat per location, and the free tier genuinely includes unlimited staff calendars. If you already run Square hardware, this is the least friction available. Card present runs 2.6% + $0.15 on the free tier, improving to 2.4% + $0.15 on Premium. Note that Square’s waitlist is a Plus feature, not a free one.

The catch: barber payout logic is thin. Commission splits and booth rent are not native the way they are in Squire or Mangomint, so mixed-model shops end up reconciling in a spreadsheet. And the tier discount is a mirage at normal volume — Plus saves 0.1% card present, so you need roughly $49,000 a month in card-present sales before the $49 pays for itself on rate alone.

Barbershop-first, and it shows

Squire

Built for barbering rather than adapted from salon software. Booth rent tracking, tip and commission payouts, barber-level P&L. Flat per shop: $30 independent, $50 Pro, $150 Executive, $250 Titan.

The catch: add-on creep. Branded landing pages are $25 a month on top, and the AI feature is $99, so an Executive shop that wants both is near $275. Squire publishes its processing rates — 2.5% + 20¢ card present and 2.9% + 30¢ online — which is a better card-present rate than ours. And Squire is barbershops only, by design. That focus is exactly why it is good at barbering — it also means a mixed shop with salon chairs or a nail station is outside what the product is built for.

You are buying demand

Booksy

The strongest consumer marketplace in US barbering. If your problem is empty chairs rather than disorganized ones, this is a customer acquisition channel, not just a booking tool. $29.99 for the first seat, $20 for each additional.

The catch: Boost charges 30% of the service price on a client’s first visit, with a $10 minimum and a $100 cap. Add-ons and tips are excluded. A $45 first cut costs $13.50. That is real money on a new client, but it only applies to clients Boost actually sent you, and it disappears when Boost is off. The bigger number is the $20 per barber, every month, forever.

The best price curve at scale

Vagaro

$23.99 base — Vagaro’s marketing page calls this an exclusive rate for the first six months while its own support docs list it as standing, so plan around $30 — plus $10 per additional calendar, capped at seven paid licenses. Past eight staff, additional employees are free. Twenty barbers cost the same as eight.

The catch: almost everything is a separate SKU. Forms $10, check-in app $10, online cart $10, MySite $20, branded app $100 a month plus a $100 one-time build fee, payroll $34 plus $5 per employee. A shop that wants a branded app, forms and check-in is closer to $215 a month than to $94.

The best-built product here

Mangomint

If you care about how software feels to use at the front desk, this is the one. $120 base per location plus $10 per user — no user is included in the base, so six barbers is $180. Additional locations are $120 each. Processing 2.45% + $0.15 in person. Mangomint changed this pricing in August 2026, so older comparisons are wrong.

The catch: the $120 floor is the highest self-serve entry price in this list, which makes it the wrong tool for one to three chairs. And every staff profile is a billable user — front desk and assistants included, not just bookable barbers. Phone is another $70 per line.

Predictable to the dollar

GlossGenius

Flat per business with no per-seat charge: $28 Standard, $56 Gold for teams up to nine, $168 Platinum for ten and up — month-to-month. Annual billing takes those to $24, $48 and $148. GlossGenius publishes no staff cap on Standard, so a small team may fit the $28 tier. Processing is a flat 2.6% with no per-transaction cents, which is unusually good on small tickets.

The catch: that flat rate inverts on large tickets — a $300 sale costs $7.80 here against $7.50 at Mangomint. And the jump from Gold to Platinum at ten staff triples the bill, $56 to $168, exactly at the moment a growing shop can least absorb it.

Cheapest card present, metered everything else

Fresha

$14.95 per bookable team member on the Team plan, up to twenty. Card present at 2.29% + $0.20, plus $0.10 per Tap to Pay authorization, is the lowest rate here. Marketplace commission is 20% of a first visit with a $6 minimum — and only for clients who found you through Fresha’s marketplace, never ones you brought yourself.

The catch: the free tier is gone, and messaging is metered in a way that bites a busy shop — 100 automated texts per team member per month, then two cents each, with marketing texts metered separately at eight cents. Six hundred free texts sounds generous until you are sending reminders and confirmations across 900 appointments. Add-ons are charged per team member too, which bills the same scaling unit twice.

The enterprise answer

Zenoti

For ten or more locations with franchise structure, centralized inventory, memberships and chain-level benchmarking, Zenoti is the category answer and the others are not really competing.

The catch: no published pricing at all — footprint-based quotes only. You cannot benchmark it, which means no leverage in the negotiation and no idea of the real cost until you have sat through a demo. It is the wrong purchase entirely for a single six-chair shop. We wrote up the detail separately: Razored vs. Zenoti, including the eight things Zenoti does that we do not.

Ours

Razored — and where it loses.

Razored is $25 a month for a solo provider, $50 per location with unlimited providers, and $150 for two locations with $50 for each one after that. Adding a barber never changes the bill. Card present is 2.75% + $0.10, online 3.15% + $0.30, through Stripe. Walk-ins are free on every plan. We built it because we own and operate No Grease barbershops and needed it.

The honest version of the pitch: at six chairs we are $50 — level with Squire Pro, a dollar under Square Appointments Plus, and against Booksy at $130 and Mangomint at $180. Unlike Square’s free tier, the walk-in queue, skill-based provider matching and commission tracking are included rather than sitting behind an upgrade.

Where Razored loses

We have no consumer marketplace. Booksy and Fresha will put you in front of people searching for a barber; we will not. If your chairs are empty, that is a real reason to pick one of them over us. Online and phone bookings carry a $3.00 booking fee paid by the client, where most platforms charge the client nothing — we think a card on file is the right trade for fewer no-shows, but it is a trade. Four things Zenoti does that we do not: memberships with recurring billing, so there is no monthly cut club yet; payroll summaries rather than payroll actually filed and paid across all fifty states; no phone layer answering calls during the rush; and no guest-facing kiosk, so every walk-in still checks in at the desk. We are younger than everyone else here, with a smaller integration ecosystem. And if your shops are franchised, Zenoti automates royalty calculation and collection where we do not.

Straight answers

The questions owners actually ask.

What is the best barbershop software in 2026?

There is no single best. For a solo barber, GlossGenius at $28 a month and Razored Start at $25 are the cleanest entry points. For a single shop with four to ten chairs, Razored Growth at $50 per location, Square Appointments Plus at $49 and Squire Pro at $50 are the strongest options because none of them bill per barber. For shops that need customer discovery, Booksy and Fresha. For ten or more locations, Zenoti.

Which barbershop software does not charge per chair or per seat?

Square Appointments, Razored, Squire and GlossGenius all charge per location or per business rather than per barber. Booksy adds $20 per staff member, Fresha $14.95, Mangomint $10, and Vagaro $10 per calendar capped at seven. At six chairs the difference between a flat platform and a per-head one is roughly $80 a month, and it grows every time you hire.

What is the cheapest barbershop software?

Square Appointments has a genuinely free tier with unlimited staff calendars at one location, so on subscription alone it is cheapest. It lacks walk-in queue management and native commission handling, so shops that need those end up paying elsewhere. Among paid plans that include a walk-in queue and commission tracking, Razored Growth at $50 per location is the lowest for a multi-chair shop.

How much does barbershop software cost for a six-chair shop?

Subscription only, one location: Square Appointments $0 to $149, Razored $50, Squire $50 on Pro, GlossGenius $56 month-to-month or $48 annual, Vagaro $73.99, Fresha $89.70, Booksy $129.99, Mangomint $180. Zenoti does not publish pricing. Payment processing runs between 2.29% and 2.75% card present across these platforms and is billed separately.

Do Booksy and Fresha take a commission?

Only on new clients who find you through their marketplace. Booksy Boost takes 30% of the service price on a first visit, with a $10 minimum and a $100 cap; add-ons and tips are excluded. Fresha takes 20% with a $6 minimum. Returning clients are free on both, neither charges commission on customers you brought yourself, and Booksy’s Boost can be switched off.

Which barbershop software handles walk-ins properly?

Squire, Razored and Zenoti treat the walk-in queue as a first-class part of the day rather than an afterthought bolted onto a calendar. Square keeps its waitlist on the Plus tier rather than the free one. If more than a third of your chair time is walk-in, this matters more than any pricing difference in this comparison.

Can I switch platforms without losing my customer history?

Ask three questions before you sign anything: can you export the full customer list with visit history and notes, in what format, and who owns the client relationship if you leave. Mangomint and Razored both do free data import. Marketplace platforms are where this gets complicated, because clients acquired through the marketplace may be treated as theirs rather than yours.
